Interview with a Trainee Solicitor: Winifred Mbieli

Have you got a question?

Why did you want to become a Solicitor?

I love giving advice and I believe wrong is wrong and right is right. Growing up I loved the idea of saving the world and was always and is the one person, people still come to for some sensible and good advice. Why not professionally solve/help people/companies with their legal issues.

It’s not an easy road to become a Solicitor, how do you feel now your nearing the end of your journey?

Amazing, ecstatic, and grateful to God especially as I started my training contract during a pandemic.

What motivates you when it comes to your job?

I am motivated by my passion for the law which is an achievement for me to finally become a Solicitor whilst constantly improving and winning cases for clients. I love the process involved from start to finish and very much feel motivated working with the right team here at Oracle Solicitors, which makes it even more better!

Do you remember how you felt when you got your training contract?

I started in September, which was just only a few months ago, imagine during a pandemic! I feel happy and grateful to God.

What area of law do you enjoy the most?

At the moment I work within the Aviation department and I enjoy working there but hoping to move around other areas during my training contract to deal with more commercial work, Employment law etc.. at the moment I also volunteer at a Legal Advice centre and I love working within other various areas of law.

What do you do in your spare time?

I am writing a fitness/motivational book at the moment and love putting out workout videos, learning stunts and different body movement at the moment, well calisthenics workout nothing dangerous.

What advice would you give a paralegal finding it hard to get that training contract?

Never ever give up ! no matter what you are going through right now, it might look like you will never achieve your dreams or it is too far beyond your reach, but like my mum always says, the right job for you would never pass you by. I believe God is saving you for the best there is, so keep fighting to get the BEST and I believe  every rejection is only telling you, THEY DO NOT DESERVE YOU AND YOU ARE WORTHY!  Keep working and building yourself, personally and professionally, sign up to a pro bono centre, volunteer, give yourself time and space to grow and breathe it is very important in this process as it can get tough to eliminate the doubt and negativity.

Funnies

Tea or coffee?

None, I gave up on tea as I couldn’t drink my tea without sugar, so for fitness reasons had to give it up and replace with just plain milk or just have an hot chocolate why not ? No coffee for me as morning workout is the wake up call and boost of energy I need. Do a HITT/strength training workout at 4am and thank me later 🙂

Stairs or lift?

Stairs I tell myself, but when no one is watching I sometimes only a little tiny little bit take the lift.

Beer or wine?

None

Working from home or going to the office?

Depends, I love working from the office and interacting with my colleagues, but I don’t miss travelling or paying for travel!

Packed lunch or buy lunch?

Depends, sometimes I dump my pack lunch to buy lunch, it depends if I want a cheeky Nando’s, not too often to be honest but I do like being a rebel 🙂
